Reporter Profiles

Christopher

My name is Christopher, I am 13 years old. I live in South House, Edinburgh but I was born in Inverness in the Highlands. My favourite subjects at school are Maths, English, P.E and C.D.T.  My favourite food is Ham and Pineapple pizza!

I chose Festival Radio because it was different and I thought it would be fun which it is! My little brothers name is Declan my little sisters name is Paige and my big brothers name is Darren. My cousin has had a baby girl called Mia. I was recently awarded one of the top awards in first year which is called a distinctive award!

Jennifer

My name is Jennifer and I am fifteen years old. I go to the Royal High school, and I am awaiting my standard grade results. In my spare time i enjoy going on my tarampoline and making my own jewrey. I also enjoy going out with my friends who amuse me quite a lot.

I learned about the go4it program and the opportunity to go on this week long course at school. I wanted to go on this course because iv never really ‘experienced’ the Edinburgh fringe having been on only one show in my fifteen years. I thought it would be a chance to experience different parts of the fringe all for free! I also thought this course would be a great learning opportunity on which I would be able to gather knowledge on how the world of radio operates.

I was not disappointed as a learned so much in my 5 days such as interviewing techniques, mini disk operation and editing skills.

My friend julie an i decided to do a radio broadcast on the different genre's of comedy and theatre and which one is better. This allowed us to talk to a variety of people and to see a variety of shows.

I really enjoyed my time at festival radio as it taught me much more then imagined it would, in a friendly and encourging atmosphere. I would love to repeat the experience and will be looking out for the course next year!

Scot

My name is Scot and I am 15 years old. I have always received good grades in school and I am expected to receive credit grades in all of my standard grades. I have always had a great interest in sports such as cycling, motor biking, skateboarding/skating and I am very interested in the media.

I chose Festival Radio because it was an opportunity to extend my knowledge of how the media works. Whilst I am at Festival Radio I plan on seeing 4 shows, all of which are comedies. My final broadcast is going to be about the wide variety of comedies for all ages. The comedies I plan on seeing are all in different styles, some of which are street acts, situation comedies and theatre.

I also have some knowledge of the equipment used for lighting and sound as my dad works in a media facilities company. This is probably the cause of my interest in both sides of the media as an audience and as well as the technical side.

Chris

Hi my name is Chris and I am 13 years old. I am involved in a lot of things e.g. Basketball, Football and much, much more. I love motorbikes especially The Yamaha R1 and The Kawasaki Ninja but unfortunately I have to be 21 to own one.  So I stick with the Minimotos (Small fast annoying bikes).

When I’m older I would love to be a fighter pilot. Or in the British Airways Flight Crew - either, I don’t mind.  I love music - rock is my favourite, but some pop is OK, R 'n' B is not great but is good.  I'm Good!!!!

Fiona

Hi, I am 14 years old and I go to St. George’s School for Girls. I live in Edinburgh and I have two cats called Hally and Luna. They are both two years old. I have two brothers and one sister, called Sarah. My brothers are called Stephan and Douglas. My hobbies are hillwalking and playing the Oboe.

I heard about the Festival Radio Project from my friend Luisa when she gave me the ‘Go4it’ catalogue. we decided to go because it seemed fun and you get to see Fringe shows for free! It looked as if it would be a good chance to learn some new skills. Also we thought that it would give us an opportunity to get on the radio. I do not want to work in the media but am I sure that I will use some of the things we learn during the project later in life.

Joshua

Hi, I am Joshua and I decided to do Festival Radio because it looked interesting. I have a big Angora Rabbit who has been on the Tweenies, that was when I decided to get her so my dad drove to Mull and got her. I like to ride Gemma a pony. I like to ride weekly at Balerno.

Luisa

I decided to come to come to the Festival Radio Project because it sounded fun and a good way to get your voice heard! I hope to improve my interviewing skills during the week. I don’t think I will end up having a job in the media (as I have other ideas!) but it’s always good to learn something new.

Julie

My name is Julie and I am 15 years old.  I attend the Royal High School and am now in 5th year still awaiting my results for my Standard Grades.  I have always had an interest in writing stories and reading good novels along with my passion for music, dancing and singing, although I’m no professional!

I’ve lived in Edinburgh all my life although I love to explore the Scottish countryside when I go on my holidays in the Highlands.  I also enjoy listening to my favourite band, which happens to be my own sister’s band named Opal Sky who have a very unique sound.

Eating food has always been one of my favourite interests and I love curries, pizzas and a lot of African recipes as well, such as Gari which is a special sticky rice.  I am a bubbly, outgoing and crazy girl who loves to make people laugh and bore them to death because I never stop talking!

Sadiah

My name's Sadiah, I am 15 years old and live in Ratho, near Edinburgh. I’m in fourth year in school, my subjects are: Economics, Chemistry, Biology, Art and Music.  Out of all of them, I like Art  and Music because I can be creative.

I took part in Festival Radio because I wanted to work with the media and see what its like. So far, I’m really enjoying it: working with people, learning how to use different types of equipment and “vox popping”.

Recently I finished my Duke of Edinburgh Bronze award expedition, It was really exhausting climbing up big hills and camping in the rain! I should be going to Holyrood Palace to collect my Duke of Edinburgh certificate in December, I think it is a great achievement and I hope to continue this with all my other projects.
